Plague Maker

Plague MakerAuthor: Tim Downs

FBI agent Nathan Donovan is investigating a case with the Joint Terrorism Task Force. A man is shot and killed in his apartment and thousands of fleas are found dead—in a fan shaped pattern on the floor, inside the apartment. These fleas are not the normal cat fleas found in the United States. Instead, these particular fleas are found only in the Orient, and are known to carry the bubonic plague. This leads the investigators to believe the fleas were released and exterminated, on purpose, somehow related to the murder.

The FBI calls in Nathan’s ex-wife, Dr. Macy Monroe, a professor and government consultant who specializes in the psychology of terrorism, to explore a decades-old story which holds little evidence. This story is a theory an eighty-year-old Chinese man offers.

The Chinese man, Li, tells the investigators heart-breaking tales from World War II, focusing the hunt on one man who hurt Li the most, and who they know has the power to kill millions. As time runs out, Nathan and Macy must try to forgive the tragedy that tore them apart so they can work together to save the world.

PLAGUE MAKER is a riveting read that has it all: suspense, three-dimensional characters, thrilling, page-turning action, and a powerful faith message making this more than a bioterrorism novel.

Characters from other of Mr. Downs’ books make appearances in this novel, which readers of his previous Bug Man series will enjoy.

This is my first book by Mr. Downs’ I’ve read, but it won’t be my last. I was impressed with the well-written story, which kept my interest all the way through. PLAGUE MAKER will have a broad audience appeal, ranging from teenagers (my thirteen-year-old loved this book) to adults, male or female. I highly recommend PLAGUE MAKER. $19.99, hardcover. 395 pages.
