The Other Daughter

the-other-daughter THE OTHER DAUGHTER
by Miralee Ferrell

It’s Susanne Carson’s birthday, and her husband has arranged a date night with her. He’s running late at the office though, and Susanna needs to take their two children over to her mother’s house as soon as the kids get home from school. Just before the kids get home, someone knocks on the door. A young girl is standing there, and she claims to be David Carson’s daughter…

Susanne wants to believe it’s a joke, but unfortunately, Brianna looks too much like David for it to be anything but true. When David gets home from work, Susanne confronts him, but he denies ever being unfaithful to her. But then Brianna presents them with a letter and David remembers one night when he was eighteen…

Now Susanna is faced with a daughter she doesn’t want. David wants to keep her, but Susanna is convinced that Brianna’s trouble and needs to be in foster care. Susanne’s friends advise Susanna to make David and Brianna leave. But Susanne isn’t sure what to do. Is there anyway this family can remain intact? What will happen to Brianna?

The Other Daughter grabbed my interest by the end of the first page, and I was hooked. I had to keep reading to find out what would happen. The story is different enough that I didn’t feel I was reading a repeat of other books, yet predictable enough that I had some inkling what would happen next.

Susanne and David are both realistic characters. David is a Christian who wants to win his wife and children for Christ, but this other daughter’s arrival throws a huge wrench in that. However, he can’t turn his back on his own child. Susanne loves her husband, but finding out he fathered a child years ago is like a slap in the face. Both characters have a lot to lose.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Other Daughter and highly recommend it to anyone who loves to read women’s fiction. $12.99. 318 pages.
