DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE
by Deeanne Gist
Tony Morgan expects to inherit one of his father’s businesses when his father passes. What he doesn’t expect is to find that his older half-brother inherits everything, and Tony has been disowned, and his younger sister has been promised to a man old enough to be her grandfather. Desperate to protect his sister, his mother, and yet find a way for himself, Tony takes a job working for Spreckelmeyer’s oil company—his father’s biggest competitor. He figures if he works from the bottom up, he’ll know all there is to know about the oil business and someday he’ll own a company of his own.
Essie Spreckelmeyer is independent and outspoken, more used to being a “man” and causing headlines for her unwomanly behavior than to having male attention. So from the moment she meets Tony, sparks fly. When she refuses to hire him, her father, goes over her head and gives Tony a job, so immediately the two are at odds.
Unfortunately, Tony’s dislike of Essie doesn’t last long. Unfortunate for him, that is. He has no time to consider courting, and the woman is unwilling to let a man, any man, near her. So, Tony finds himself DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE…
DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE is the sequel to Courting Trouble. Readers will want to read the first book in the series before reading this one, as they will wonder what has happened to Essie prior to Tony coming on the scene.
I found Courting Trouble a little too edgy for my enjoyment, so I was kind of hesitant to read DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE. But I really enjoyed this book, much more than I’ve enjoyed any of Ms. Gist’s prior books. This is her best writing yet. The story, the conflict, the setting, the characters, everything was all expertly woven together and before I knew it, I was finished with the story.
The story is more than just a romance though. There is also a small mystery toward the end of the story, making the black moment truly dark. I did figure out who-dun-it fairly easily, but still, that made the end of the book exciting too. Don’t miss DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE. $13.99. 394 pages.
